Nach T-Mobile und O2 hat nun auch der britische Telecom-Konzern Vodafone den Startschuss für sein neues Mobilfunk-Hochgeschwindigkeitsnetz in Deutschland gegeben. Im Ostseebad Heiligendamm eröffnete das Unternehmen am Donnerstag seine bundesweit erste Sendestation, die mit der UMTS-Nachfolgetechnik LTE (Long Term Evolution) arbeitet. Von dem Breitband-Standard sollen zunächst vor allem ländliche Regionen profitieren, in denen es bisher keine schnelle Internet-Verbindung gibt. Bis zum Jahresende plant Vodafone, LTE gestaffelt in drei Tarifen in mehr als 1000 Kommunen anzubieten.
