Microsoft hat sechs neue Sicherheitsupdates veröffentlicht. Insgesamt werden 19 Löcher gestopft, darunter ein schwerer Fehler im Herzen von Windows. Vier der jetzt veröffentlichten Sicherheitsupdates stuft Microsoft als "kritisch" ein, die höchste Gefahrenstufe. Der erste und wichtigste Patch, MS12-075, stopft ein besonders schlimmes Sicherheitsleck im Kernelmodustreiber, dem Herzbereich von Windows. Schon der Besuch einer manipulierten Internetseite genügt, um den PC mit Schadcode zu infizieren. Aber auch beim Öffnen von Office-Dokumenten kann die Lücke zum Problem werden. Betroffen sind alle Windows-Systeme von Windows XP über Windows 7 und Vista bis hin zum brandneuen Windows 8.

Das zweite Update (MS12-071) schließt Lücken im Internet Explorer 9, über die sich Nutzer von Windows 7 und Windows Vista unbemerkt Schadsoftware auf ihren PC einfangen könnten. Gleiches gilt für ein ebenfalls als "kritisch" eingestuftes Sicherheitsupdate für die grafische Benutzeroberfläche (Windows Shell). Der Patch MS12-072 wird auch für Windows XP und Windows 8 zum Download angeboten. Er soll verhindern, dass Online-Kriminelle über manipulierte Verzeichnisse in den PC eindringen und diesen mit Schadsoftware wie Trojaner infizieren können.

Mit Bulletin MS12-074 aktualisiert Microsoft einen weiteren wichtigen Baustein seines Betriebssystems: das .NET Framework. Microsoft stellt Update-Pakete für die Version 3.5.1 (Windows 7), für Windows XP ( Version 1.1 und 2.0) und für die Framework-Versionen 4.0 und 4.5 zur Verfügung. Über insgesamt fünf Schwachstellen können sich Angreifer erhöhte Rechte verschaffen, Schadsoftware installieren oder vertrauliche Informationen ausspähen. Die Fehlerkorrekturen schieben dem einen Riegel vor. Das IIS-Update (MS12-073) betrifft indes nur Server-Arbeitsplätze, die mit Windows Professional, Server 2008 oder Server 2008 R2 laufen.

Neben Updates für Windows hat Microsoft noch einen größeren Softwareflicken für seine Tabellenkalkulations-Software Excel veröffentlicht und damit weitere Einfallstore für Hacker geschlossen. Bulletin MS12-076 ist an Office 2010, 2007 und 2003 adressiert. Die Excel-Löcher klaffen auch in Office 2011 und 2008 für Mac OS, wofür Microsoft eigene Software-Flicken zum Herunterladen und Installieren bereithält.
