Seit dem vergangenen Freitag gibt es im Zentrum Berlins einige WLAN-Hotspots, an denen die Bürger der Hauptstadt kostenlos auf das Internet zugreifen können. Für jeden Nutzer stehen dabei täglich 30 Minuten Online-Zeit zur Verfügung.

Das Unternehmen Kabel Deutschland hat in Zusammenarbeit mit der Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg ein öffentliches und vor allem kostenloses WLAN in Berlin ermöglicht. Seit dem vergangenen Freitag lässt sich an Hotspots im Zentrum der Hauptstadt auf das Internet zugreifen.

Bisher ist das Angebot jedoch noch begrenzt. Jedem Nutzer steht täglich eine Online-Zeit von 30 Minuten zur freien Verfügung. Diese Zeit soll in den kommenden Monaten aber erweitert werden. Und wer über mehrere mobile Geräte verfügt, kann derzeit auch die kostenlosen Online-Minuten mehrfach nutzen.

Bisher gibt es 44 der WLAN-Punkte im Herzen Berlins. Bis Juni 2013 soll das Angebot auf 100 Funkstationen erweitert und auch auf andere Bezirke ausgeweitet werden. Laut Kabel Deutschland kostet das Projekt rund zwei Millionen Euro, 316.000 Euro davon kommen als Förderung von der Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg.
