Mit einem eigenen Smartphone wolle sich Amazon noch stärker gegenüber Apples iPhone und Geräten auf Basis von Googles mobilem Betriebssystem Android positionieren, schreibt "Bloomberg" . Dem Bericht nach sei Amazon bereits dabei, entsprechende Mobilfunkpatente zu erwerben, um für etwaige Rechtsstreitigkeiten mit der Konkurrenz gewappnet zu sein.
Wie bei seinen E-Book-Readern und dem seit Mitte November in den USA erhältlichen Tablet Kindle Fire dürfte der Online-Versandhändler versuchen, sein Smartphone möglichst günstig anzubieten, um anschließend hauptsächlich durch den Verkauf seiner digitalen Inhalte wie E-Books, Musik, Filme und auch Apps Gewinn zu erwirtschaften.
