Jetzt kommen die dicken Dinger!

Im September erscheint das dritte Kartenpaket Armored Kill für den Multiplayer-Shooter Battlefield 3. Wir haben uns auf der E3 schon mal in die neuen Panzer, Hubschrauber und Kampfjets gesetzt.

»Armored Kill wird die größte Karte bieten, die wir jemals für Battlefield gebaut haben«. Diesen Satz bekommt man beim Entwickler Dice derzeit häufiger zu hören. Kein Wunder, schließlich soll der dritte DLC Armored Kill für Battlefield 3 genau das liefern, was die Fans des Multiplayer-Shooters erwarten.

Nach dem beinahe an Modern Warfare erinnerden Ausflug in die knackigen Infanteriekämpfe von Close Quarters kehrt Dice mit Armored Kill zu dem zurück, was die Battlefield-Serie berühmt gemacht hat: gigantische Karten, auf denen sich bis zu 64 Spieler mit jeder Menge Fahr- und Flugzeugen ordentlich Saures geben. Wir haben auf der E3 eine der vier neuen Karten gespielt.

Groß, größer, Bandar Desert

Und zwar an »Bandar Desert«, die größte der neuen Karten. Und das ist noch untertrieben. Nur zum Spaß steigen wir in einen Panzer, rollen vom einen zum anderen Ende… und sind mehrere Minuten unterwegs.

Die Designer haben das riesige Gebiet mit jeder Menge Details gefüllt. So starten wir im Südwesten der Karte inmitten einer Dünen gesäumten Wüste und entdecken gleich zwei Außenposten der Amerikaner, in denen zahlreiche Panzer, Jeeps und Jets bereitstehen.

Weiter im Norden grenzt die Wüste an einen breiten Highway, der das Gebiet quasi durchschneidet und hinter dem sich ein malerisches Touristendorf an eine noch malerischere Küste schmiegt. Dort laden postkartentypische Palmen und strahlend weißer Sand zum gepflegten Kampf um die beste Strandliege ein.

Bemerkenswerte Höhenunterschiede gibt es auf »Bandar Desert« nicht, die Karte fällt vergleichsweise weitläufig und flach aus. Dice will die Spieler damit förmlich ermutigen, die zahlreichen Fahr- und Flugzeuge einzusetzen. Von denen stehen rund 30 Stück parat; auf einem vollen Server kann also jeder zweite Spieler gleichzeitig in einen fahrbaren Untersatz steigen.

Panzerschlachten XXL

Als wir mit 31 anderen Journalisten gegen ein ausgewähltes Team von Dice-Mitarbeitern antreten, bleibt kein Stein auf dem anderen.

Denn anders als in Close Quarters, wo wir lediglich mit großkalibrigen Feuerwaffen, Granaten und Raketenwerfern für reichlich Kollateralschaden gesorgt haben, machen die Panzer, Jets und Hubschrauber in Armored Kill ein ganzes Stück mehr kaputt.

Klar kennen wir derartige Zerstörungsorgien schon aus dem normalen Battlefield 3 oder dem ersten DLC Back to Karkand . Wenn sich nun aber knapp drei Dutzend Fahr- und Flugzeuge die Projektile um die Karosserie jagen, dürfte selbst der schwerhörigste Nachbar aus dem Bett fallen.

Neues Kriegsmaterial

Für Armored Kill hat Dice das bisherige Arsenal um fünf neue Fahrzeuge erweitert, darunter eine mobile Artillerie, ein Quad sowie der AC-130 Bomber.

Letzterer ist allerdings nicht steuerbar, sondern zieht selbstständig seine Kreise über dem Gelände. Der Clou dabei: je nach dem, welches Team einen bestimmten Punkt erobert, kann man die AC-130 als Spawn-Punkt für bis zu vier Soldaten nutzen, die dann aus sicherer Entfernung mit mächtigen Geschützen unter den feindlichen Truppen aufräumen. Zumindest solange, bis das andere Team den riesigen Vogel vom Himmel holt. Denn: Anders als die anderen Fahrzeuge kann der Ingenieur den Flieger nicht reparieren.

Schade indes: Während die neuen Fahr- und Flugzeuge insgesamt 20 freischaltbare, bisher noch unbekannte Upgrades bereit halten, guckt die Infanterie gänzlich in die Röhre. Armored Kill wird weder neue Waffen, noch zusätzliche Gadgets für die alten Knarren bieten.

Zu guter Letzt bekommt der DLC auch einen neuen Modus namens »Tank Superiority« spendiert. Doch auch zu dem ließen sich die Entwickler bislang noch keine Details entlocken. Womöglich wird es auf der GamesCom im August neue Infos geben.
