In Project Cars haben die User des Crowdfunding-Portals World Of Mass Development über eine Million Euro investiert. Damit umfasst das Produktionsbudget des Spiels schon jetzt 2,5 Millionen Euro. Zu diesem Anlass wurde nun ein neuer Trailer veröffentlicht.

Mit Project Cars sind die Need for Speed: Shift-Macher Slightly Mad Studios auf den Crowdfunding-Zug aufgesprungen. Auf dem eigens entwickelten Crowdfunding-Portal World Of Mass Development sammelten die Entwickler bereits über eine Million Euro. Die Idee dahinter ist, dass die User ihr Geld nicht nur spenden, sondern anlegen. So werden Mitglieder je nach Höhe der Investition in Junior- bis Seniorstatus eingeteilt. Je nach Status kann der User unterschiedlich stark in die Entwicklung des Spiels eingreifen. So kann ein Junior-Mitglied beispielsweise projektbezogene Foren nutzen und so mit den Entwicklern in Kontakt treten, sowie monatlich die Ergebnisse des Entwicklungsprozesses begutachten. Ein Senior Manager hingegen kann zusätzlich bei Meetings anwesend sein, eigene Themen einbringen und hat Zugriff auf den Programmcode des Spiels.

Ist das Spiel fertig, werden die Unterstützer am Gewinn beteiligt, je nachdem, wie viel sie beigetragen haben. Die Entwickler der Slightly Mad Studios wollen so ein neues System etablieren, um die Finanzierung durch große Publisher zu umgehen. Ein Konzept das aufzugehen scheint – zumindest für Project CARS. 20 verschiedene Fahrzeuge und 25 Strecken sind bereits enthalten, darunter einige lizensierte Wagen, wie der aus Need for Speed: Shift bekannte Pagani Zonda.
